This Mzansi Sista has a beautiful smile and an equally radiant spirit that touches all the people who meet her.

There are some people whose absolute kindness of heart just melts all barriers, whose smile shines brightly, whose goodness and generosity, indeed selflessness reignites belief in humanity. Miya is one of those earth angels.

Childhood and Growing Up

Miya Bam was born in Johannesburg 26 years ago, but was raised in Pretoria by her grandmother while her mother was studying to be a doctor and then, in later years, moved to join her parents and siblings, also in Pretoria.

As an assistant accountant Miya finds her days working with figures and finances, which is one of her passions, hoping to complete her Masters in Accounting, although the secret dream of opening her own restaurant fills her days with joy as she already caters for friends and family events.

Relationships

For one whose heart is always with others, it seems ideal that Miya enjoys spending her days with her loved ones wherever the mood finds her. While she knows she can turn to them during the hard times, it is her ‘love, honesty and faithfulness’ that keeps her going.

‘I believe in God,’ she exclaims proudly, ‘and I value the relationships I have.’

Her current romantic relationship is with a man she feels respects and honours who she is, although as we all know, a few frogs must be kissed before the prince comes along. An arduous journey to find the one who supports her and values the ideal of family, she has had to mend her broken heart a few times, find forgiveness and move on to the person she is now.

‘One of the biggest challenges I had to face was dealing with my parents’ divorce.  I think I overcame this through lots of prayers and wanting my folks to be happy.’

The Power of Womanhood and Sisterhood

In a country where women are often abused, Miya hopes that women can stand up together and recognise the importance of sisterhood that could and often does exist. She makes no qualms that Mzansi has its own challenges, but she does believe our country has a lot to offer.

I think RSA is one of the most beautiful counties in the world.  We have great holiday spots, we have beautiful weather, we have great food, and we have lovely people.’

As an educated woman, she hopes that education and its continuing role in our society can uplift people who find themselves in less than ideal circumstances. Maybe one day, when she lives her dream of being a wife and mother, she will pass on her wisdom to her family.

After all, the hardest job in the world is being a parent, moulding a being into a humanitarian and that is something one so beautiful can teach.
