Casey Macaulay is a gentle yet strong spirit that will drop anything to be there for her friends and family – a rare quality that shines from within her.

Life, Light and Love

The lovely, raven haired Casey (24), was born in Johannesburg. She lives in Morningside with her family and three beloved dogs. She comes from a close knit home and is the younger of two children. Her older sister and herself are inseparable and share a bond that goes beyond this world.

Casey believes in God and the energy of love, saying, ‘Love is what makes and breaks us.’

Work and Play

Casey is currently studying for an honours degree in inclusive education and she teaches privately as a remedial teacher. Her ambition is to actively take part in making a difference to education in South Africa. She aims to be a successful, inclusive education specialist and dreams of helping children overcome their barriers to learning.

Spending time with friends and family is extremely important to her. She loves nothing more than going to Melrose Arch for lunch or dinner to catch up with her friends. And for a good party her favourite hangout is Movida in Sunninghill. A great club where she can let her hair down and party it up.

Relationships, Challenges and Growth

Casey is currently single. When it comes to a partner, she is looking for someone with ambition and drive. But most importantly, she says, she wants someone to love her the way she loves them.

Studying at Rhodes was a great challenge in her life. She was away from home, young and vulnerable, and a man was harrasing her. However, she believes that through positive self-development and meeting wonderful friends there she managed to cope and survive this terrible ordeal.

The most healing feeling she has ever felt was when she eventually had the courage to speak out about it. ‘Letting my voice be heard and having action taken against him was the most liberating feeling – now that’s what you call girl power!’ she exclaims.

Proudly South African Sista

Casey sees South Africa as a developing country with enormous potential. ‘I mean, we have just successfully pulled off the most incredible World Cup!’

She believes that the event has given our country positive exposure and hopes that many people can now begin to appreciate South Africa for its wonderful people, cities and rich culture.

To Casey, education in South Africa is in urgent need of attention as many children are still not being provided with adequate education. This educator exclaims with great passion that ‘it is every child’s right to be educated. Teachers need to be empowered and the funding and budgets should be used judiciously!’

I am Woman, Hear me Roar!

Casey is adamant about the ability to speak out, and that woman in this country and throughout the world need to discover their voices.

‘We as woman should be unified so we can make a difference in changing the issues that face us today.’
