‘We have gone back to the basics – to offer a caring and nurturing environment stripped of all window dressing in order to achieve an oasis of serenity,’ say the pioneers of Teremok Marine boutique hotel. It is a gentle space, which they have created in the heart of Umhlanga Rocks,
Enter as an Evangelist
From the moment you step through the gates, you enter as an evangelist rather than as a guest. There is a prevalent feeling of being tended to in the purest way that is most endearing about this five-star establishment. The green sprawling lawns and rich garden, with its glossy pool, call to you. If you could hear the voices, they would be saying, ‘let it all go’.
The lovely lodge staring down at you opens its arms in welcome. Everything is cool, unhurried. Do not mistake it though for a monastery’s platitude, rather a quietening of the outside voices. All eight suites named to reflect an element of Teremok or its history astound in their beauty.
While every comfort is given, it is simple because in the luxurious en suite rooms everything has its place. The soothing music as you enter your abode fills the air, massaging the temples, soothing tired feet. Each room is decorated and designed individually and the colours are so warm, the shades so gorgeous, the textures so fine it takes all strength not to simply crumble.
Individualistic Style
Individualistic style is painted on the walls, adorned in little corners, garnished on the extra length king size or twin beds. Even the fragranced toiletries, mood music and confectionary belong to just your room. Rest assured no other guest…oops evangelist has what you have. Isn’t it delightful? Isn’t it clever?
Their ‘basics’ include handcrafted ceiling fans, air-conditioning and private balconies, open plan bathrooms with rain-dance showers, freestanding baths and double basins with separate toilet and bidets. A walk around this beautiful structure leads to various coffee and tea stations where biscotti are served. The walls have pictures and more pictures of people unknown to you. It’s almost like trespassing in a neighbour’s house.
Gentle is the World
One feels safer in the open areas of the lounge. It’s all a subtle blend of stylish furniture combinations and lime green, pistachio and chartreuse fabrics. Remember gentle is the word, so if you prefer quiet time then the separate areas to dine, read, enjoy a drink can be found around the lodge. Or, if conversation is more your thing then throw yourself onto the comfortable couches and talk.
It’s a shame that the mood must be broken when you venture out for lunches or dinners, as Teremok is a breakfast-only establishment. All meals are freshly prepared in an open-plan kitchen. All food is free of additives or preservatives, but tastes delicious.
Wellness Centre
And when you’re not talking, eating, or taking the beautiful flora and fauna, make time for the Teremok Wellness Centre. This is made up of a gymnasium and two treatment rooms where full-time therapists are on hand to give your body a treat. This charming place is truly all about wellness. Given gently of course.
