Kim Kayser is a magnificent woman who will accomplish all her dreams and desires because of her drive, passion and courage. Kim shares her thoughts on love and life with us.

Family Life

Kim was born in Cape Town and moved up to Johannesburg when she was three years old, so she considers herself a Joburger. Her grandmother lives in Cape Town and she used to visit her every Christmas, but as Kim got older she noticed that her travels there became less frequent.

Kim and her mother are exceptionally close, what could be called ‘best friend’. Kim knows that if she is in any kind of trouble, her mom would be first on call. Her godfather was the father figure in her life, but tragically he passed away from cancer last year and she misses him terribly.

Religious Beliefs

When it comes to religion and spiritual belief Kim says that she does believe in God and Jesus, but she doesn’t practice any religion.

She adds that she admires people who follow their traditions. What she doesn’t like is when people try to impose their beliefs on others. ‘You have your beliefs and I’ll respect that. But beyond that it is really none of my business.’

Work and Play

Kim currently works in retail as the store manager of Adidas Originals in the trendy Melrose Arch.

Kim says she used to frequent clubs like FTV Sandton on Thursday nights and Taboo on Saturday nights, but right now she is taking a bit of a break from the club scene and is now hanging out at places like MiBar in Rosebank and News Café in Sandton.

Why is she taking a break from the hard partying scene? ‘It is refreshing to get together with your friends and have an actual conversation instead of just getting together to party. You hardly have time to talk when you are at a massive club.’

She is enjoying her break from the hard partying scene because she feels she is getting to know her friends more and more.

Likes and Ambitions

Kim loves to dance, sing along to the radio, socialising (obviously) and watching CSI on a Tuesday nights just to see Horatio Caine! And who doesn’t like themselves some cheesy Horatio? On lazy Sundays she enjoys crawling into bed and sleeping the day away or settling down with a good book. A true free spirit.

Her ambition is to be a wedding planner. She did her 3rd year at The London Institute of Fashion on wedding planning and worked for a wedding company for a year; enjoying every minute of it.

She plans on studying wedding planning further in the near future and with this girl’s ambition and drive she is sure to be a top at what ever she sets her heart to.

Relationships

What Kim looks for in a partner is someone who is honest and loyal. She says that just about all the guys she has dated in the past were not particularly honest about their emotions. She understands that it is hard for some men to express their feelings, but it is hurtful when they don’t.

And she adds with a laugh, ‘And if a guy wears slip slops out in public – that’s a big NO!’

Facing Challenges

Kim has a medical condition that has to be controlled with medication. She started working for a well known company and in her second month there they became eager to get her out because of it. She didn’t want to make it a big deal by taking them to the CCMA for discrimination as that would have been on her record. ‘Who would have hired me after that?’

So she left and feels good about it. Being unemployed for a month was difficult, though, but with positivity she says, ‘I have good work experience behind me with some great companies who have given me great references and now I have a fantastic job!”

She admits that she has tried to limit herself physically and emotionally due to her medical condition. She knows that she is not like other completely ‘healthy’ people, but she is OK with who she is. ‘I feel good and no one can stop that feeling.’

South Africa: What Now?

Kim is truly appalled by the strike that is happening in South Africa right now. She knows that the cost of living is high and can understand the situation both ways.

She says, ‘People are saying why should the strikers get their 8,6% increase and the R1000 housing allowance? But we seem to forget these people take care of us. But when lives are affected in a negative way, such as babies dying in hospitals, it’s actually quite disgusting. It is especially so after a successful World Cup where the world looked upon us with admiration and congratulated us... I wonder what they are saying now...’

Woman of Afrika

Kim believes that the issue that needs to be addressed and spoken about in the country is the rise in sexual abuse. ‘This needs to stop,’ she says with passion. ‘We all need to speak out.’
