‘The coolest bolthole in the Cape... this place is a real find not because the setting is so great, in front of Table Mountain with views over town towards the Atlantic- but because of the techno injection... The bar is sexy as hell, and the hand picked furniture is fabulous. This is the perfect small city hotel.’ - Tatler Best City Boutique Hotel 2007.

Kensington Place

If the masses agree, who are we to disagree? Kensington Place is truly a pleasurable find. Nestled in the prestigious suburb of Higgovale and looking onto Table Mountain, this boutique hotel serves to awaken the senses. A comfortable place, with dollops of luxury and lovely décor it is the place to enjoy Cape Town. This is where the fun begins and this is where it ends.

This finely decorated establishment is set in a beautiful herb garden. The smell of lavender and mint hang lovingly in the air effused with the tangy scent of lemons. ‘Zen’ is the word you’re looking for as you skip through rows of light coloured pebbles and neat lawns. How peaceful it is to submerge yourself into the sparkling blue waters of the pool or luxuriate in the comfortable deck just off the pool closed off with lace curtains like a tent.

The Interior

The interior is warm – modern African. The colours, though familiar, are like a cool breeze washing over you. The handpicked furniture is suitably placed to accommodate you and soften the load of hectic city life. Urban, modern, plush, elegant – words that delight those who seek the subtle blend of homeliness and delicate luxury.

There are eight suites, all different, but with some familiar features such as own en suite bathroom, with shower or bathtub, king size or twin bed covered in fine cotton linen, air conditioning for gentle respite from the Cape’s hot summers, large private terrace, laptop and Skype phone as well as an iPod docking station. The rich velvets, sumptuous suede and fine art adorning the room add exquisite pleasure. The small touches of candles, toiletry products and room service will definitely make one feel like royalty.

The hotel is almost always full, with seventy percent occupancy. Looking around in the reception area with the framed photos by Sally Dove and the paintings, large flower pots and orchids resting in vases, one sees why.

Fine Cuisine

Meals are served in the intimate dining area. For just that touch of guilty pleasure, oysters and champagne are served in the evenings. Breakfast is served until lunchtime, and light lunches are on offer every day, although dinner is only served three days a week. On request, picnic baskets can be arranged, but you will find a snack box in the bedrooms for those hungry moments when you have taken full advantage of the mini bar.

When you go as a guest to Kensington Place, there should be nothing lacking. If they do not have it onsite, it will be arranged, like pamper sessions, gym membership, sports activities and day trips. For some the aim is to please. For Kensington Place, the aim is that you enjoy every sinful bit, for you will be tempted!
