Emotional Freedom Technique

Can you imagine truly clearing the fog of your patterns, your emotions, to release the true you? Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a gentle process of tapping:  using the points of acupressure also known as acupuncture, to correct the energy flow in our systems. With it comes release from emotions that have the potential to block, hurt or sabotage us.

The Premise of Emotional Freedom Technique

In my previous articles I have mentioned EFT as a tool to heal emotional wounds. This article gently explains the premise of it, thereby providing you with information for your own healing, should you require it.

EFT works with our energy system. The basic idea is that information is stored in our cells. When we acknowledge and access it on this level and change it, the experience of our selves change. We make different choices.

The Energy System of Our Bodies

When we have an experience, a thought, a series of thoughts, which then develop into beliefs; beliefs which then develop into patterns of relating, our energy system (specifically known as the meridians) is affected. A bad or negative emotion causes our energy system to be zapped. Think of it as a power system: when all the connections are flowing smoothly, the technology functions allowing us to move ahead functionally.

However, when there is a short in the circuit things stop working causing us to become disorientated. When that happens in our body systems, our behavior is affected.  And it is cyclical – our thoughts affect our emotions; ultimately affecting our behavior.

However, thoughts are often difficult to change. So, if we can, on some level, start with the emotion which shocks the energy system and make the corrections there, we see how the other aspects change too…naturally and gently.

The Process

EFT combines talking with gentle body work. It begins from a point of a feeling the experience or the story. At each point that the emotion is felt, the intensity is measured and through the expression of it, as well as through tapping specific points on our face, neck and head, the intensity is reduced and peace is felt.

Who Can Benefit

Children as well as adults can benefit from the healing process of EFT. One could potentially choose this therapy at any point of your life experience.  It is great with illness, relationships, behavourial or emotional patterns, abuse, phobias, addictions, anxiety, trauma and even the more gentle experiences of disruption in everyday life.

What to Expect with EFT

The first few interactions will occur with the facilitator in an office space. The current issue will be discussed and the therapist will then introduce Emotional Freedom Technique, explaining how it works and what to expect.

The tapping on parts of your body begins on the issue as it is discussed. The more specific you get with the issue, the more effective it is, although you can also gently work through layers that lie beneath the surface.

In the course of the work you learn the actual tool to apply to your own life whenever you need. As you gently tap away the layers your essence is revealed and you begin to open possibilities into your experience that perhaps you didn’t think were there previously.
